Are you winning the battle?

Dear Freind,

Chris Ansell, a wise and dear colleague of mine once asked me; “Are you winning the battle against the forces of disorder?” as I sat frustrated at my desk late one night. At the time I was young, driven and rather naïve to the ways of the world. I had very concrete ideas about life and attempted to control as much as I possibly could. Over ten years on, I have learned that the forces of disorder are always at play. We live in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous times, or VULA as the military calls it.

When we are faced with disorder, we have two choices: (a) resist – go into battle; (b) adapt – get curious and generate solutions. The ability to adapt is a skill that can be developed with conscious effort, and we need it now more than ever before. This week, when you're facing your own battle against the forces of disorder, I encourage you to stop, breathe deeply and consciously adjust your thoughts and actions to align with your true north.

As we face another week together, let's reflect on Elizabeth Gilbert’s wise words in her new novel City Of Girls: "The world ain't straight. You grow up thinking things are a certain way. You think there are rules. You think there’s a way that things have to be. You try to live straight. But the world doesn’t care about your rules, or what you believe. The world ain’t straight, Vivian. Never will be. Our rules, they don’t mean a thing. The world just happens to you sometimes, is what I think. And people just gotta keep moving through it, best they can.”

Until next time, be kind and take care,

Best wishes,
Meg
