The Power of Timing

As the weeks fade into months, I find myself coming back to the same question; “How is this universal experience impacting individual lives?” The rabbit holes I have been down are endless. I often wonder how mothers… fathers… children… grandparents... siblings… leaders… workers... and the unemployed are managing during this time of uncertainty? I have come to the conclusion that the timing of this event will have an impact on each of us.

Have you ever watched a sailing boat race? The crew are constantly active, yelling orders, pulling ropes and immediately adapting to the ever-changing weather conditions. However, if an unprecedented wave hits the right spot at the wrong time their ability to respond is significantly compromised. The specific timing of an event that occurs in your life is a variable that remains often unacknowledged. Your personal circumstances prior to this pandemic will have altered the way you have perceived and experienced this event.

At this time last year, I was at 100% of my capacity. Most days it took all the energy I had to get myself and my family through the day. If COVID-19 had struck 12 months ago, my experience would have been distinctively different. This week I invite you to reflect on how your COVID-19 experience would have manifested at a different time in your life.

How has the timing of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your capacity to respond?

As we continue to wade into the unknown together, let’s reflect on the wise words of Brené Brown; “I know my life is better when I work from the assumption that everyone is doing the best they can.”

Until next time, take care and be kind,
